Students make the connection between the concept of hatred and the violence associated with present-day hate groups. They study of the numbers and size of hate groups and “patriot” groups and their locations, motivations, actions, targets, and goals. Students also study the dangers such groups represent to people, government, institutions, etc., in the United States. Finally, students examine the differences and similarities between hate groups, bullies, and terrorists. (Grades 9–12)
